The events in our childhood shaped us as the human beings we are today. Connecting with other people’s traumas inevitably affect us. Sharing the weight of their pain can lead us to blame them and us as well. To protect ourselves we create barriers to filter the outside world pain. During this process we generate an internal fight in ourselves. A new beginning can be achieved when we stop blaming and instead we start caring. Embracing the trauma and facing it from a different perspective will make it disappear or simply change form, leading us to a new life.

Brian Scalini

My name is Brian Scalini. I'm 27 years old and I come from Italy.
I am a freelance choreographer, dancer, and designer based in Dresden, Germany.

I studied for 10 years ballroom-dance before starting my professional training in ballet and contemporary dance in "Dance Studio Faenza", Italian Academy directed by Luna Ronchi (F.I.S.T.D. Dipl. Cecchetti Faculty, London). During this period I had the possibility to study and to have masterclasses with Ihsan Rustem, Gustavo Ramirez Sansano, Roberto Zamorano, Eduardo Zuniga, Macha Daudel.
From 2017 until 2020 I’m a dancer of the Tanzcompagnie “Landesbühnen Sachsen” directed by Carlos Matos in Dresden, Germany.
In parallel with dance, I finished in 2016 my studies and I got a Bachelor in Product Design at the University of Bologna “Alma Mater Studiorum”, which helped me to further develop my artistic vision/skills which I apply to my projects as a choreographer.
From 2020, I’m part of the Master Choreography at Palucca University of Dance Dresden.

Since 2018 I’m developing my own projects as a freelance choreographer, trying to combine my multidisciplinary background in dance and design.
In these two years I had the possibility as an emerging choreographer to be invited to different events such as  Tanzwoche Dresden (Germany - 2018), TanzArt Galà Giessen (Germany - 2019), Certamen Internacional de Coreografia Burgos y Nueva York (Spain - 2019), Solo Tanz Theater Festival Stuttgart (Germany - 2020), Gdanski Festiwal Tanca - Solo Dance Contest (Poland - 2020), Istanbul Fringe Festival (Turkey - 2020), SOLOCOREOGRAFICO Frankfurt  (Germany - 2020), MASDANZA (Canary Islands - 2020). www.brianscalini.com

In these times of isolation, we at MASH view our alternative Dance Week platform as an opportunity to continue establishing connections across borders and cultivating spaces for collaboration between Jerusalem dance artists and those abroad. Due to the postponement of the Jerusalem International Choreography Competition 2020, we chose to pair each artist that was selected to participate in the competition with a Jerusalem dance artist, initiating a partnership that we hope will come to fruition when they meet next year in Jerusalem.
