About the CREATION

Creation and performance by Luís Malaquias and Bruno Duarte There are themes that intersect Science and Art in terms of research. The search for an answer to the question of motivation for any human behavior is one of them.

“Amebas Traidoras” (Traitorous Amoebas) emerges based on the multidisciplinary approach to this issue by Robert Sapolsky, author awarded by the MacArthur Foundation, and Professor of Biology and Neurology at Stanford University.

Luís Malaquias is graduated from the Escola Superior de Dança, from I.P. de Lisboa in 2012 and, since then, worked as a dancer at Quorum Ballet - Companhia de Dança Contemporânea and at Companhia de Dança de Almada. He choreographed "A Invenção da Resposta" and "Qu'ils mangent de la brioche: #publicperception" for the Companhia de Dança de Almada. In 2018, he developed a video dance project, that gave rise to the films "The Art of Losing" by director Cristina Ferreira Gomes and "Sete Dias de Inverno", by director Henrique Câmara Pina.

Bruno Duarte has a Master degree in Dance Teaching and a degree in Dance from Escola Superior de Dança (ESD) in Lisbon. He was a dancer and performer in the Grupo Experimental de Dança and Quórum Ballet companies and is a member of Companhia de Dança de Almada since 2013. He was co-producer and performer in the "P48" videodance and "5", winning the award for best videodance in competition - audience choice in the festival InShadow. As a creator, he presented "Metamorphosis", for Culturgest in partnership with ESD, "someone else ago", for Centro Cultural de Belém’s BOXNOVA programme and for Companhia de Dança de Almada, seven pieces since 2014.

Companhia de Dança de Almada (Almada Dance Company), is a non-profit cultural association, which develops its activity essentially in the areas of artistic creation and dance training. Founded by Maria Franco, it started its activity as a professional contemporary dance company in 1990. Since then, it has produced more than a hundred pieces by national and international choreographers, and has performed over a thousand shows in the country and abroad, namely in Europe (Germany, Belgium, Croatia, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland), Africa (Cape Verde), America (Brazil) and Asia (China). Since 1992, Ca.DA organizes the annual festival "Quinzena de Dança de Almada – International Dance Festival", promoting exchanges between Portuguese creators and dancers and the international community. In 1998, Ca.DA School was founded, developing continuously in the field of artistic dance training, offering both vocational and non-vocational dance courses. Since 2018/19, it offers a vocational Integrated Dance Course accredited by the Portuguese Ministry of Education.
